2027 North Navigator Gen2 Freestyle Control Bar

The 2027 North Navigator Gen2 Freestyle Control Bar is North’s dedicated 5-line control system for freestyle and wakestyle riders.

Built specifically for 5-line kites such as the North Pulse, it takes the proven Navigator Gen2 platform and adds the components serious freestyle riders actually need: a dedicated 5th line, larger Freestyle Loop and HandlePass leash.

For 2027, the bar also gets North’s lighter and stiffer Gen2 construction, improved grip, refined trimming system and updated Connect V2 Quick Release.

If you're riding a modern C-kite and want a clean, purpose-built 5-line setup for unhooked freestyle, handlepasses and wakestyle, this is the Navigator designed for the job.

Dedicated 5-Line Freestyle Setup

The biggest difference between the Navigator Gen2 Freestyle and the standard Navigator is the dedicated 5th line.

North developed this bar to work with 5-line freestyle kites such as the Pulse Modern-C, where the fifth line connects to the kite's centre bridle.

The system helps support the kite's shape while also assisting with relaunch.

North colours the fifth line blue, making it easy to identify when you're rigging and running your lines out on the beach.

This is an important distinction: the Navigator Freestyle isn't simply a normal four-line Navigator with a Freestyle Loop fitted. It is a genuine 5-line control system.

Built For Freestyle & Wakestyle

Unhooked riding places different demands on a control bar.

The Navigator Freestyle comes standard with North's Connect V2 Freestyle Loop, giving you the larger opening required for easier hooking back in after unhooked tricks.

A dedicated HandlePass leash is also included rather than the standard freeride leash supplied with other Navigator models.

The setup is designed around riders doing:

  • Unhooked freestyle

  • Handlepasses

  • Wakestyle

  • Powered tricks

  • Modern C-kite riding

If you mainly freeride, foil, ride waves or boost hooked-in, the standard Navigator will generally be the better choice. This version is aimed squarely at riders who actually need a 5-line freestyle setup.

Freestyle Leash Ring

The Freestyle Loop includes a dedicated Freestyle leash attachment point designed for riders who want a freestyle-style connection while retaining the ability to activate the primary quick release.

This gives freestyle riders the cleaner setup they want for rotations and handlepasses without having the leash and landing line continually winding around the centre system.

Connect V2 Quick Release

The Connect V2 Quick Release has been updated for 2027 with a stiffer security finger and secure single-action reload.

North has designed the system to minimise the chance of accidental unhooking or release while keeping resetting straightforward.

After activation, the QR can be reloaded in a single action, which is particularly useful when you're getting back together in the water after a missed trick.

Stronger & Lighter Gen2 Construction

The 2027 Navigator benefits from technology developed for North's premium Navigator Pro.

A new fibre-filled polymer internal truss increases bar stiffness by approximately 20% while keeping overall weight low.

For freestyle riding, that increased stiffness helps maintain a direct connection between your hands and the kite – particularly when riding powered and making aggressive steering inputs.

100% SK75 Dyneema Flying Lines

The Navigator Freestyle uses strong, pre-stretched 1.8mm SK75 Liros Dyneema flying lines.

They're designed for long-term durability and resistance to shrinkage while maintaining the direct kite feedback freestyle riders expect.

The standard flying line configuration is:

12m + 10m = 22m

The modular construction also allows the upper 10m sections to be swapped for optional 8m, 6m or 2m extensions if you want to experiment with different line lengths.

Shortening your lines can give the kite a faster, more direct feel, while the standard 22m setup provides the familiar balance of power, response and jumping performance.

Compact 38–43cm Freestyle Bar

The Navigator Gen2 Freestyle comes in one adjustable size:

38–43cm

North considers this compact width suitable across its freestyle and wakestyle kite range.

The narrower bar complements the fast, direct steering of smaller Modern-C freestyle kites without making the kite unnecessarily reactive.

Changing width is simple. Pull out the bar-end cassettes, rotate them 180 degrees and reinstall them.

Use the:

38cm setting for a slightly calmer steering response.

43cm setting when you want more steering leverage and faster kite movement.

Improved 2027 Grip

North has refined the Navigator grip for better abrasion resistance while keeping the comfortable feel of the previous generation.

An offset tactile finger section also lets you identify the correct bar orientation by feel rather than needing to look down.

That's particularly useful after spins and handlepasses when you need to grab the bar and immediately know which side you're holding.

Smooth Manual Line Unwind

A ceramic bearing in the centre system makes manually unwinding the lines smooth and easy.

After rotations, simply spin the bar back into position.

The elongated leash attachment ring can also rotate to help prevent unnecessary twists developing through the landing line and leash connection.

Refined Cleated Depower

The 2027 Navigator uses North's proven above-the-bar cleated depower system.

An updated power bracket provides smoother adjustment while helping reduce wear through the trim line.

It's a straightforward system that allows quick power adjustment without unnecessary hardware around the centre of the bar.

Who Should Choose The Navigator Freestyle?

Choose the Navigator Gen2 Freestyle if you're riding a compatible 5-line freestyle kite and regularly ride unhooked.

It's particularly suited to riders using the North Pulse and anyone focused on powered freestyle or wakestyle progression.
