All-around Freeride/Wave 

Predictable and versatile, the Triad has had some big upgrades this year. The kite is not only perfect for taking your twin tip riding up a level, but it now excels in all types of surf riding. The wingtip shape has been redesigned to increase drift and down the line performance. The kite has been swept back to increase turning speed and lighten the bar pressure. With a lower aspect ratio, the Triad is faster and lighter, making it perfect for navigating tricky sections in the waves, but maintains its predictable flying characteristics, promoting progression in all disciplines. The Triad maintains its sheet in and go performance due to its luff strut and fairly deep draft, making it an easy kite to progress from beginner to higher level riding. We have redesigned the dacron structure of the kite to strategically place reinforcements only where needed, increasing strength and decreasing overall weight. This multifaceted kite merges ease of use, surf performance, and light responsive bar feel into one intuitive package.

Naish Triad 8m 2023

I flew the 8m 2023 Naish Triad recently in 14-17 knots. There wasn’t quite enough wind for a directional session so I opted for a foil instead. Other kitefoilers were on 10m Kites at the time. My previous experience with a 3-strut Kite was with the Naish Slash. More recently, I’ve been riding a Boxer when foiling. In the air, the Triad felt responsive with medium feedback on the bar. It’s reasonably quick thru the air and turned around its wing tip with a good pull on the bar. The steering lines can be set to a lighter feedback setting but I didn’t trial this during the session. In comparison to my 5m Boxer, the 8m Triad felt markedly slower in the air, understandably. I got use to this quickly however and found that manoeuvres like 360’s, and upwind tacks were much easier for me due to the additional power and float from the Triad. Surprisingly, when riding down a wave and straight at the kite at 45 degrees, it drifted remarkably. I only needed minor bar input to counteract the kite falling, allowing it to drift with me. I’d say the drift is much better than my 2020 Slash 7m. This may be the influence of the Luff strut, but it was a stand out feature in my book. I can understand how Naish still market this kite to intermediate free-ride Kiter’s as it’s user-friendly and you know where it is at all times. I believe wave kiting is now the focus for more advance riders. I am really looking forward to running this kite through its paces in some 4ft cross-shore conditions as I feel this is where it will shine. Based on my test, I have ordered a 7m as I feel the power this kite generates will be more than adequate for the conditions I primarily ride in i.e. 12-20kts foiling, 20+kts wave kiting etc. Big thanks to Jason at Briskites for the test ride and his knowledge in the field.
